June 4, 2014 I headed up the ridge trail for North Sister and decided I would try out hiking all three. I have been a little intimidated about Middle Sister as I have been warned about some knife edge parts to it. I was pleasantly surprised that there were easy routes around any knife edge parts to Middle Sister. The hike was pretty amazing. There was enough wind to keep the bugs down and the vegetation hasnt gone full bore yet so no bushwhacking to speak of. On Middle Sister looking up the Virginia Creek valley towards Easter Sunday Mt. At the top, I found this. I have found loads of these on the top of the Three Sisters. My assumption is that this is Eagle regurgitation from eating at the dump. It is made up of aluminum foil, paper, plastic bags, seeds and broken glass (seriously.... and sharp!) Just for size. I am hoping one of the Kodiak Birding community can comment on this and tell us what it is. This is looking from the South Sister into the Devils Prongs. The peak is 1 mile away. Spot the goats? Closer - I count 43 total goats Bit closer Full zoom of a portion of the goats. Philip T. recommended a point and shoot to me that I think is pretty amazing. If you are looking for something simple that has a great optical zoom, check out the Panasonic DMC-ZS40. Not cheap but I was pretty impressed with that zoom from 1 mile away. Looking back towards Middle and North Sister Heading home. 2.5 hr loop.
