12/28/13 Nice calm day so I headed to Long Island to go check out the remnants from WW2. Heading out it was nice and calm Cruisin Ran into 5 river otters Long Island Lagoon The road is still there Over 1,000 troops worked and lived on Long Island during the war Flush! Quonset huts all seem to suffer structural fatigue in the middle Some were still intact The two story bunker One part of the interior The Army destroyed all the artillery guns before they left Out on the island you can see some observation towers marked by the rectangular entrances I did stumble onto these guys and left quickly so as not to cause a stampede Observation posts Another bunker I would have volunteered for this duty during WW2 Heading back on the road... those aren't vehicle tracks... they are from the ghost elk of long island (feral cows) The route And the paddle home. Quite a day in Kodiak.
