This video is seemingly ancient and sort of cheesy, but it contains some pretty relevant info for Kodiak outdoor adventurers.
This is a newer and also very informative video:

This is a long (1 hour+) and excellent talk by a bear researcher about bear behavior, bear deterrents, and effective bear attack/conflict counter-measure strategies. He rambles a little, but there is a lot of data behind his conclusions. The exercise at the end is a little slap-happy, but it drives some useable points home. Here is one of the speaker's papers on the subject: www.nps.gov/glba/planyourvisit/upload/bear%20spray%20in%20Alaska.pdfExecutive summary: take basic bear-conflict precautions, bear spray is the shizzle, and Kodiak is a great place to experience brown bears in a statistically danger-mitigating setting.

According to Deb Ajango, there have been two separate fatalities in the US in the past year from bear spray being discharged in an enclosed environment. So put it in the floats and keep it just outside the tent door.

Yes. ALWAYS tell the pilot that you are packing bear spray and make sure it gets stashed somewhere safe so that an accidental discharge doesn't cause a plane crash. I'd be curious to learn about how bear spray can kill you in a tent though.
