I've had some outstanding hikes on various high ridges on the road system recently due to a hard snow pack. Great access in areas that are very brushy in summer. Crampons have been a necessity and occasionally an ice axe as well. I attempted Shaft Peak yesterday, but ran into a 4 inch slab on top of unconsolidated "sugar" snow as I headed up to the summit, so turned around short of the peak itself.
