Beautiful calm, sunny day - the road to Fossil Beach is clear and driveable in 2WD - high clearance recommended. Stacy and I hiked up on the cape and down to Seal Viewing Point. Not nearly as many seals as usual. With the frozen ground, hiking was as good as it gets up there - no muck/marsh to contend with. BTW, there's a hawk owl hiking out in the cottonwoods to the left of the road, just after you cross the Olds River bridge heading away from town. He sat in a tree next to the road for ten minutes and allowed us to photograph him. More info and photos here: groups.yahoo.com/group/KodiakBirding/If you are a birder, I urge you to join this group.
