Great hike today. We parked at the bridge over the Red Cloud River and hiked up the trail to the Blue Room, and then on up to the summit of Sheratin Mountain. It was lovely. The ground was frozen the whole way, and we didn't hit any snow of significance until we were on the summit ridge. There is a little ice on the trail, but we made it all the way up and down without crampons with no falls. If you get sketched out on steep, hard snow, taking some traction devices is generally a good idea. We did decide to skip the steep sidehill below the Blue Room and climbed over the knob just to the north instead. There was a seriously cold wind blowing on top.
DOT graded the road recently so there is hardly a pot hole to be found. Nice.
