I skiied the upper buskin in skate skiis after work and it was too soft. It would have been good in classic skiis - Philip's rut from yesterday is frozen solid and a little narrow for my boots, but it was softenning rapidly and a few passes in classic gear ought to make it passible. In my skate gear I could only float on top where the sun had not yet touched the snow. I bet the south bowl where it faces the sun is awesome spring corn this afternoon. Patrick

I don't know if it ever did thaw out. We checked it out and was basically all frozen chunk and the whole valley was in deep shadow by the time we got there (5pm). If it makes you feel any better, my boots did not fit in the track I had laid yesterday either. Not recommended. It was pretty though.

I took some pictures too - check out our blog at saltonstall.blogspot.com/Sounds like the time to go skate skiing was when you went classic skiing and to go classic was when I went skate skiing! Patrick

Hey Patrick - nice photos on your blog! I just wanted to say thanks for posting your ski updates so regularly. We really appreciate having that information as we try to figure out what to do after work before it gets dark.

Adelia, thanks for the thank you! I must admit I was thinking of you 2 the last few times I rushed to post. What's the point of a ski report if it's a day too late! Today I'll be taking both my skate gear and classic to the Buskin. Hopefully it'll be rock solid and I can see about the trail thru the meadows that leads above the canyon and eventually over the pass to Elbow Creek. Last year I did that ski quite frequently in March and April, and I think we might have enough snow to do it again this year. We'll see. ... .. I should be posting by 4 PM. Patrick
