I never heard any more about that Swiss guy who got dropped off at the south end of the island and was going to hike back to town. He started in late December (I remember the article in the Mirror said he had a double ration of pasta for New Years Eve) and was going to hike the coast (I don't know which side of the island though). He had 20 days of food and he estimated it would take 10 days to do the trip. That was a long time ago. What was the outcome? He sure picked the wrong winter to do a trip like that. I mean, jeeze, it's been just awful.

I was wondering the same thing a week or so ago. Never heard anything about him though. He was hiking the south side according to paper, he planned on going through Old Harbor. I remember thinking hiking the coast in 10 days would be next to impossible! If he took shortcuts inland it would still be a tough trip in 10 without skis.
Hope he made it out OK! I might call Andrew's to see if they have any info.

Everyone I have asked has been wondering the same thing recently, but no one knows a thing. If you find anything out, we'd all be curious to learn his story.

I called Andrew's this morning and they said they picked him up the day after they dropped him off. He said it was too soft and he was sinking to much when he walked. He was expecting everything to be frozen. Guess Kodiak got the better of him.

Awesome, thanks for the report. Poor dude. Flew half way around the world for an over-nighter. It's amazing too, he started the trip during the only couple of nice days we had in the weeks surrounding the new year. If that proved too unpleasant to be out and about, it's a good thing he got picked up when he did.
