The road to the golf course is still not plowed so I tried the prudent option of getting on the lake at the Outlet. I tried skate skiing, but it was too soft - I could only stay on top if i skiied perfectly. Then I went back and got my skinny waxless classic skiis, and sank in pretty deep. I think I would have been OK with fat skiis, but only had the thin ones in the truck. I opted not to leave the lake because when it freezes up again a deep rut on the trails above the lake would ruin the skiing there. So just a few laps of the lake and I was done.
But I do not think the skiing up high will be much better today. I noticed no snow on the trees up on the mountain and noted that this morning the storm ended at 33 degrees and raining at the airport. This usually means ice storm up high (that's how the last storm ended to and why gregg found a crust beneath the powder all the way to the top yesterday).
