Don't bother. We drove out around 1PM hoping for some soft snow, but the whole Buskin valley is a crusty mess. The road after the last Buskin bridge/antenna field is not plowed and I don't think you could get past the golf course in a Subaru. There is only one set of vehicle tracks so passing without a decent clearance 4wd would be tough. We parked at the bottom of the road switchbacks at the bottom of the pass, put our snow shoes on to climb Pyramid to snowboard, but only took about 5 steps up the hill before turning around. There is a very firm crust on top, but below that is just soft snow down into the salmonberries. We broke through and sank in badly. It would be a wallowfest and I don't think you could ski on it. Perhaps climbing, but the way down would be terrifying.
A highly motivated person in a serious 4wd could drive up to the pass, perhaps, and I bet the upper mountain is terrific, but we gave up. We didn't want to get the car stuck.
We ran into brewery Ben and he said he talked to people who tried to ski on Buskin Lake and they said it was crusty and unpleasant. Oh well.
