Adelia and I skied Buskin Lake after work today. We got to the lake outlet parking area just after 5 pm. The lake has some styrofoam-like snow over much of its surface, and in the back corner the lower layers of snow over the ice are mushy with water, but otherwise the cruising is easy. A bit of extra fresh snow has made the rest of the route very nice. The new track is clean (until more walkers mess it up, anyway), fast, and in good shape. Great snow coverage on the Lake, road, and riverbed. We followed Patrick's tracks a fair distance up the tributary riverbed until we found flowing water where he also turned around. We did an out and back and did not see how he made a loop out of it. We were back at the car by 6:20 pm and there was still enough daylight despite solid overcast.
Still highly recommended, though it is supposed to warm up and so who knows what it will be like in the future.
The snow cover looks thin, but it is actually fresh snow over pretty thick ice.
