I just did a trip over the 4th of July starting at Port William on Shuyak Island and traveling down western Afognak back to town. I finished by landing at Split Rock Beach (aka Long Beach or Three Bear Cove) and hiking the Termination Point trails to White Sands. I did it over the 4th of July weekend which, as we all know, ended up getting a bit damp. But the Afognak high country in the KNWR lands are beautiful and I ran into well over 100 elk along the way. As usual for Afognak, I didn't see many bears.
