We may be coming out of a cold phase in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) as our recent warm winters would suggest. But the scary part is that this could be an upward ratchet or stair-step in temperatures and future cold phases may not be, on average, as cold as previous PDO cycles. PDO news in the Washington Post

Maya D recently sent me an interesting link which gives a historical account of climate trends for a particular location: wxshift.com/You can type in our zip 99615 and get climate data from 1970 to 2014 as a line or scatter plot for mean high temp, mean low temp, mean temp, precip, snowfall, etc. All these can be displayed as annual totals, or seasonal totals (fall, winter, spring, summer), or by month. The data has only been compiled through 2014 at this point, so you would need to get current numbers somewhere else for up-to-date comparisons, but the info is still interesting. One caveat is that I have not looked into where the data comes from, and some numbers can look a bit weird.
