I just got back from a 5-day trip to Shuyak Island. I flew into Port Williams on the mail plane, blew up my packraft, and headed east along Shuyak Strait through Cape Current Narrows, and then made my way up the east side of Shuyak and camped just south of Back Bay the first night. The second day I hiked along Perevalnie Passage over to Shangin Bay, paddled up that, and then portaged to Carry Inlet where I spent the second night. The third day I crossed Carry Inlet over to Skiff Pass, headed north up that and went ashore to hike around Party Cape to Wonder Bay. I blew the raft up again and paddled down to Neketa Inlet and the Mulcahy View cabin via Big Bay and crossing some islands. On the fourth day I hiked out to Eagle Cape and then went back to the cabin to get my stuff and paddled back down to near Port Williams where I spent the last night before flying out on the fifth day. It was an awesome trip and I would definitely do something like that again. Take a peek: Packrafting Shuyak Island

Well, I did do it again. :^) Steve, Sharon, John and I flew into Port William on the mail plane on Thursday morning and spent the next 5 days traveling up the west side of Shuyak, up and around Party Cape, down into the interior of the island at Carry Inlet, and did a day trip out to the Perevalnie Islands before heading back to Port William. It was lovely. Shuyak used to see a lot of traffic from Kodiak locals, but travel there has fallen off a lot in the past 10 years for some reason. Maybe flights are too expensive? At $125 the seat fare to Port William is really a bargain and you can hike or paddle your raft into the park easily, so there is no reason not to go check out one of the most beautiful places in coastal Alaska that happens to be right in our backyards. Enjoy. Take a peek: Packrafting Shuyak Island 2016
