I went out on the lake on my skate skiis and it was a little too soft - so I went back and put my classic skiis and went across the lake and up the river a bit. It is almost too soft even for classic skiis. It looks like it did not freeze last night and the snow is getting isothermic. There also appears to be a layer of water under the snow on the ice, but it is not so soft yet that you fall down into it. So the word for today is slow and soft. I'd go downhill if I was to do it again. It looks like good powder skiing up high.
Also - I checked an ice fishing hole from yesterday and measured the ice thickness on Buskin as a little more than half my 155 CM pole. So the ice on Buskin Lake is 75 CM thick or around 32 inches. That is a lot of ice! Patrick
