Oct 15, 2012 Took the day off to make a trip out in Ugak Bay. Started in Pasagshak Bay and paddled for 3 hrs (I'm not a really fast kayaker) out to Portage bay. There was a little chop in Pasagshak Bay but the landing was smooth in Portage Bay. I paddled into the river and was greeted by a wonderful delta system. I ran into some horses and buffalo... I always know I am in Kodiak when I paddle my sea kayak past some Buffalo. From there I pulled the kayak above the high tide line, loaded up the pack and headed up the path to Lake Miam. I made it up to the lake and spent a little time fishing. I only had a little time before I knew I would be cutting the daylight short so I pulled out the packraft and floated back down to the mouth. There were probably 3 spots where I had to portage past some sweepers across the stream but it was a pleasant float. No rapids or major obstacles besides the cottonwood sweepers. I made it back to the kayak, loaded up and headed back. Not too many pictures from the trip back as I was fighting the seas on the return trip. The majority of the day in Portage had been calm and partly sunny so getting back on the water was a return to reality. A pretty great day trip via kayak and it really impressed me that so much waits just a little bit outside the road system.

Very cool trip report. Multi-media excursions can be fun when done right.

It's about an 18 mile hike or bike from the Olds River TH up to Summit, Miam, and continuing on the ATV trail to Pasagshak. A great day or overnight trip. Stacy and I once took three days to backpack this route so we explore off trail.
