Tom Pogson of Alaska Kayak School out of Homer is planning on returning to Kodiak this fall to offer open-water rescue and paddling skills classes. If anyone in Kodiak missed him this spring due to other commitments, here is another chance to develop possibly life-saving skills.
Here is the tentative info....

Hi All -
Thanks for the great summer on Kodiak !!
I am trying to plan a return visit to teach and possibly assess skills anytime after 16 September 2012, when I can get on the ferry and spend 1-2 weeks with you on the Rock.
Anton Larsen Bay offers a venue that we can use in any weather - the diverse islands and coves there always provide a place to work on these skills, as well as access to open water - as needed.
Here are some tentative dates and courses I can offer, but do let me know what you want to do??
Weekend Sea Kayaking Skills Courses - Levels 1-3
September 22-23, or 29-30, or October 6-7, Saturday & Sunday
Strokes, Maneuvers, Rescues and Navigation
$150/day all equipment included
- please write back if you want to participate in any of these weekends: alaskakayakschool@gmail.com
American Canoe Association Day Trip Leader Assessment Course: 4-days:
1) personal skills, 2) rescues, 3) navigation and leadership, 4) scenarios and written exam
This is a trip leading certification from the American Canoe Association, but is an excellent course for any and all paddlers.
Options: September 18-21 (Tue-Fri), 23-24 (Sat-Tue), 25-28 (Tue-Fri), or 29-Oct 2 (Sat-Tue)
- Level 2 Skills Assessment offered simultaneously w/ CKDTL Course.
- $400/person all equipment included + ACA membership, $40/person
- please write back if you are interested in this course: alaskakayakschool@gmail.com
Night Paddling
I'll offer a night paddling course in Anton Larsen one night while I'm there, date to be determined - this is great fun!!
Rolling, Bracing and Rescues in the Pool??
Always an option if we can get the pool time ....
Please spread the work and let me know what dates work work for you??
