Since Buskin seemed so good for skate skiing yesterday - I thought I'd try a lake closer to home. I thought Island lake might even be better because it is closer to the ocean (warmer) and should have a better crust. Boy was I wrong. It had a breakable crust that barely held up my weight - I did do 3 laps but it was not great skiing. In places on the far side it was actually pretty good. If it had been as bad everywhere as it was near where I got onto the lake I would have quit immediately. Still if enough people do laps in the track I broke it could be OK. But I think I will try skate skiing in swampy acres tomorrow. Patrick

We went out today to try skate-skiing Island Lake and must have followed what were Patrick's tracks. There are parts that are good but I would second the part about breaking through. My wife didn't have near the problem I did though with breaking through, so if you are a lightweight it might be a place for you to try. Also be careful if you are taking Fido, as we had three different dogs charge out as we did the loop.
