The skate skiing on Lake Gertrude (Ft. Abercrombie) was very good today. Lots of powdery snow on top of the ice, but no real snow base. Drifted snow in some areas was a little deep for skating, hence my VG rating as opposed to EXC. It looked like someone had classic skied yesterday; the classic skiing would be good if you can wax for the snow conditions. CAUTION: the road and trails are very icy! Both are hard ice with powdery snow on top which makes for very treacherous footing. Yesterday, walking on the road, I slipped on the ice and fell hard on my lower back on my skis and poles which was very painful. It was all I could do to make it back to the car without another fall. Fortunately, copious amounts of Vitamin I and alcohol eased the pain :)and I was able to ski today, albeit a little stiffly. I wore my cleats to walk from the parking lot to the lake.
