AKA, you just can't win in Kodiak. After giving up on snow-biking in the Salonie valley because it was too warm and soft, we went home and got our xc ski stuff and went to Buskin where it was still frozen hard and crusty: perfect for biking. The lake snow is compacted to near ice. The track is likewise pretty frozen up and unless it gets warmer, the kick traction is poor. The track is very noisy with the hard conditions, though poling is firm and positive. We went up into the canyon a bit farther than usual, but the edges where there is still snow are getting pretty narrow and slopey, and side-hilling as not to fall in the creek is more of a challenge. Good double poling. That was about it.
