Adelia and I just got back from trying to snow-bike Salonie. The temps out there must have been warm overnight because the whole snowpack is starting to soften. There is still enough firmness to it to stay on top for the most part, but it is well above freezing out there now (2pm) and it is softening up to the point where we could just barely not ride on top of it, and it was only getting softer.
The road to the rifle range is a little annoying at first, but is basically just two wide and straight vehicle tracks. There is plenty of room in the middle of the road between the tracks to classic ski, and the shoulders often look good too. Surprisingly, there was even very little ice in the tracks themselves. Once past the rifle range there are hardly any tracks, and even in the forest is is softening up. It was warm and calm when we turned back after starting into the woods past the rifle range. I bet the classic skiing would be great there today.
