It did not freeze last night and I thought it would be super soft up on Pyramid, but it was great. I guess the snow has settled enough that it does not need to freeze anymore. Serious melting going on - the Buskin is now flooding so snow is definetly melting. Also running across the road on the way up. I wonder when someone is not going to make it across the 'mud rut'. We had a blast on skiers left of big ravine at bottom of N. Bowl--down to <500' by both Steve and my altimeter.
Saw Phil the pilot headed for the mud rut at top speed in his 2-wd pickup so hopefully that worked out OK!

On Saturday 4/25 the mud rut didn't stop me but I got sucked in enough. Bottom 3 inches of my Outback plowed into the mud.
I've got the same conditions to report as Patrick and Gregg for Sunday 4/26. Even the kick stepping up to the summit was in nothing but soft well consolidated snow--no ice and no rotten snow. Waterfall run was a blast. Even the avy debris is softening so not every turn in it has to be a jump turn.
At the top of waterfall run, look for the two massive creep and glide cracks that reach from ravine to ravine. The cracks are about 3-4 inches wide and deeper than could be reached with a ski pole. They are a pretty awesome sight.

I just got back from skiing on Pyramid and am amazed at how much snow we lost in 2 days! I'd say we lost 1-2 feet in the mid mountain area and that it is retreating VERY fast from the bottoms of the runs. I skiied the 3 tree run and the bottom is almost melted out. Last year I skkied the cornice run to the road in early JUNE.
And by the way - it appears from the above that 'John' calls what I call the the 'cornice run' the 'waterfall run'. I call the run on the parking lot side of the waterfall the 'waterfall run'. I plan to create a map of the mountain to help us standardize the run names. That way we will all be on the same page.
And by the way, today the skiing was excellent. Very windy up on top - but good snow. Also snow cave is melted out. The mud ditch has been repaired too.

4/29 Today I skiied at 10:30 because I have to work this afternoon. Fog down to about 800 feet and i only climbed up to 1650 just above the snowboarder bowl. Wind screaming out of the East, whiteout, and the snow was getting a little crusty so I bailed and skiied down the waterfall run. Great snow. But alarming how quickly it is melting out down low. It might be the last time I do the run this year. It looks like the weather has deteriorated a bit since I got back to town. Patrick
