Today I went up to Pyramid at 9:30 and while it seems to have barely frozen over night - it still was not quite firm enough of a crust to skate ski. I tried, but I kept on breaking thru catastrophically. I bet the top of Pilar would be good skate skiing.
As regards Alpine - it was breakable crust below around 800 feet and carvable crust above that. Sun sort of showing thru the clouds - so not bad skiing. But not great either. Strong wind out of the east up high. Down low you had to be pretty aggressive to get your skiis thru the crust for the whole turn.

And oh yeah, Don't try to drive up to the pass unless you got a car with high clearance and maybe even 4 wheel drive. There is a huge mud hole in the road about 1/2 K past the golf course. It is a DEEP ditch. My truck looks like I went off road mud holing. .. .. Patrick
