It is Crab festival week and the skiing is still good. It was only a few weeks ago that we were skiing to the road.
I guess walking to the road with skis on .
As of May 28th a short 500 foot climb to the Spruce Nob on Pyramid and you are on snow. You might have to cross grass a few times but there is a lot of snow above 1000 feet.
If you are planning on hiking above 1000. feet expect lots of snow ! Maybe Waterproof boots and gaiters.
The weather has been pretty cool and cloudy so the snow should be around for at while.
There has been a lot of new people on the mountain this year. I am little surprised we have not seen more posts?
Hopefully June will bring a little better weather and people can explore some of the ski touring a little further off the road system . Cope, Sharatin, Center, 4 of July, and the Kalsin range
Kodiak has lots of snow above 1000 ft. so we should be skiing well into July.
Waxing your skis and carry some rub on wax might help your skis glide on the wet sticky snow .
The Islander Book shop has a new Kodiak trail map printed on waterproof Tyvek that Philip T. has updated with most of the trails and cross country routes .Sargent Creek , Terror lake to town, Crown MT.
Kodiak's maritime climate has a pretty stable snow pack. But! If the sun comes out and starts heating up the steep south aspects lookout for wet avalanche.
Cheers!

Its mid June and you definitely have to earn your turns now. I carried my skis to top of Jibber bowl and the snow was patchy from there on up.
The North bowl and The Wall is still skiable except for one narrow section but you can ski down to 1000 ft.
A few turns in the South bowl, but it's melting fast
There are a few turns on the upper Roundabout, but lots of hiking for those few turns.
Now it's on to longer hikes above Sargent Creek, 4th of July and Center.
