On Saturday, 2/19/22 Myself, Jon Cardinal and Max White left from the Beaver Pond on Buskin and went out towards the Devils Ridge via the Easter Sunday trail.
We hiked through the alder tunnel and were able to skin from that point on. Travel was fairly easy albeit icy in the morning. We arrived at Easter Sunday's bowl around 12:30pm with variable crust conditions and took our first run into the adjacent bowl around 1:00pm. We did three runs in carvable crust snow underneath Big Brother then did a final run next to Moon Bowl along the ridge line that I know as "Devils Ridge". The final run had good snow. Made it back to the car after dark. Had a great time booting up the slopes and making the most of the day. The tour there and back was filled in really well and we made good time on the approach.
With cold temps over Friday night and overcast most of Saturday, the snow was reluctant to corn. Sunday or earlier in the previous week would've been the better day to do this tour. Windy.com ECMWF has been accurate with temps and wind lately and Saturday was not different. We knew the risk of crusty conditions but were patient and were rewarded with a good, corned afternoon/evening.
We regret not skiing Moon Bowl but by the time we realized that area was softening, daylight and fatigue became a factor. I'm planning on heading back that was soon.
This weather sucks, pray for snow.
