Buskin is still pretty nice. There is a small section of the lake where the snow underneath has melted and you are skiing through slush for a little bit. Philip says he thinks this is just surface water trying to run into the lake but instead spreading out on top of the ice, under the snow. I had to stop and take off my skis to clean it off. Maybe it was just my skis, though, because I saw Gregg and Lisa coming in as I was going out and they said it wasn't that much of a problem for them.
There were some people tracks (hunters, maybe?) off and on over the trail on the other side of the lake, but there was enough room for me to make a new track. It was too beautiful to be very annoyed.

I plan on trying Buskin tomorrow. Back in December I created a new loop that I want to try again. It follows the creek up to the left from where the road trail ends. Right at the start you have to climb over a big log, but from there it went up the creek bed all the way to the meadows. Maybe the big floods we got removed the tree trunk - I hope so. Patrick

When we went skiing there last Friday the snow coverage wasn't really sufficient to leave the lake/road/riverbed. The vegetation was still poking up through the snow a lot. We skied up to the point where the trail you cut into the trees began, and then turned around there. Patrick, if you go you may want to bring a small saw along as well since parts of you loop look like they have a lot of drooping branches and leaning tree boughs in the way.

Still good Tuesday afternoon (the 10th), and no one had walked in the tracks either. Still overflow on the lake where the little stream comes in so you might want to circle out around it (ski further away from shore). I went up on the trail everybody had broken in and then took a left and cut thru to the creek bed mentioned above. It made a nice loop. Hopefully my tracks will be buried in deep snow by tomorrow ;-) Patrick
