Old Woman had ample snow for x-c classic touring on Saturday, December 19. Areas of hard crust and occasional deep wind-blown pockets were encountered, but for the most part it was good skiing. It was a bit of a drudge breaking trail out, but coming back in my tracks was great until I reached the point where a discourteous snowshoer obliterated the nice ski track I had created. I had to carry my skis up and down; the old road is a running stream right now and the runner trail is too steep for skis.

1/30 The Golf course is pretty good for both skate skiing and classic XC skiing. I went skate skiing. I also took the dogs up into the Upper Buskin area and there is barely enough snow. There is ice under the snow so the 1 or 2 inches is actually enough to ski on. The rivers are not frozen and you have to wade the first one. I ended up taking my skis off a bunch for rough areas or creek crossings. But it was worth it. Patrick

3/3 for the past couple of days I have been skate skiing at the golf course. It is completely covered with around 6 inches of hard snow. The skate skiing is Excellent. In the afternoons the surface has been softening up so you sink in around 1/2 inch or so. So classic skiing would be decent too. All bridges covered with snow too.

3/13 I've been cross country skiing on the Upper Buskin. The first water crossing near the trailhead is still a little iffy. But I found that with minimal bushwhacking I can detour around it by going downstream where the creek runs dry. The main Buskin riverbed is also dry. It has not been windy up there in the trees and there is an inch or so of well-distributed powder on top of a carvable crust. Good cross country skiing! But still can not go up river towards the canyon. But if the cold continues and we get some more snow. ... .. Patrick

3/13 Just got back from Salonie Creek - EXCELLENT skate skiing. And it will not be good tomorrow with snow or rain. No wind and fast. If you have a key it is best to drive in to range and ski from there. Perfect crust with a 1/2 inch of powder on top. Quite perfect.

How would XC be? No kick? Light winds and some new snow predicted for tomorrow (Sunday).

The XC would be excellent too! There was pretty much a dusting everywhere even before the new snowfall. Today (3/15) I skiied up the upper buskin to the canyon. Ice bridges finally in place. At the first crossing by the road (still bad) I cut a detour downstream (to left). It completely avoids the water crossing. So ski to the river and go either direction all is good! Patrick

3/16/21. Buskin is good but if you want to stick closer to town the Lake at Abercrombie is very good. About an inch of snow - so skate and classic skiing both very good. Patrick
