With the 70 deg. temps Kodiak had over the 4th of July week most people are not thinking of skiing. But this is the time of year for near perfect corn snow skiing in the Kodiak high country. It is a bit of a walk to get to the snow but the NW slopes above 2000 feet are still loaded and the warm afternoon temps make for great ski touring. Sharon and I skipped the 4 hour walk in and did a Heli bump with John at Maritime helicopter, about 8 minute ride, and spent a few days camping in the alpine and enjoying the summer skiing. The shorter walk to snow is behind Cope Mt from Sargent Creek or longer walk to Center Mt. via Kash.
