With the long days and occasional stretches of sunny weather most people have retired the ski gear for other activities ! Pyramid's N.bowl and Sharatin's North side still has some snow but going fast.
If you are up for hiking for snow there is still a bit of good of Summer skiing in Kodiak's high country. The ski runs" Double surprise. Solstice, Landing Zone" on the divide of sergeant creek and Elbow creek behind Cope Mt. still has 1000 foot ski drops to the Elbow Cr. drainage ( 2 hour plus hike to the top of the runs). For a little longer tour 4th of July and 3300 at the head waters of Sargent Creek facing NW to Kizhuyak bay are in great condition, about 4 hours to the top.
Center mt. via Kashevaroff, 5 hours one way. If you know where the 4th of July trail breaks out of the brush you can tour back via Sargent ck.
Last Wednesday Sharon and I flew to Terror Lake with Mark Blakeslee for some late afternoon Corn skiing.
Terror Lake is a great place to tour out of. Terror to town, 2 to 3 days over Crown Mt. or just tour to Crown or Glottof and ski back to Terror Lake to get picked up by float plane.
Sharon, I and Dan Davis did Heli drop trips to the 4th of July 3300.ft.area the last two weekends of sunny weather and had varying conditions early mornings can be crusty and late afternoon can get to slushy on the steep slopes facing the sun. So take care and carry self rescue Avy gear beacon prob. shovel.
