KISAR will be offering a free avalanche beacon search training at the Pyramid parking area (ski chalet) this Saturday, March 11 starting at 10 AM. The class will cover avalanche transceiver (beacon) use for locating a buried victim, instruction on probing techniques to pinpoint the victim, and proper shoveling techniques to quickly dig the victim out. Some extra beacons, probes, and shovels will be available to practice with if you don't already have your own. The class will probably last about 2 hours and will be conducted outside so dress appropriately. Snow travel equipment (skis, snowshoes, etc) is not needed, though with the firm conditions currently at the pass traction devices like Microspikes might not be a bad idea.
