Saturday Feb 18. KISAR went up Pmid today to do some training and after digging some snow stability assessment pits, we skied around a bit. There are pockets of nice snow all over the mountain, but they are separated by sections of old rain crust where the new snow has blown off. The protected areas in gullies, on lower slopes, and on northerly aspects are nice. The lower half of the South Bowl was pretty good, as were protected areas in the Jibber and the brushy runs to the north of the Jibber. We came down Three Tree and that was actually a lot of fun, but it's getting pretty tracked up. We didn't go down the North Bowl. The road is packed snow and pretty driveable, but as the sun warms the snow in the afternoon the road is getting a little soft. There is only one small icy patch at the first switchback driving up. Not too shabby. Pretty alpenglow at sunrise: Doing column tests at the top of the North Bowl: Image credit Dicky: Planning our run: Image credit Dicky: Ptarmigan at the top of the Jibber:
