Today (thursday the 1rst) the XC skiing was pretty good at the golf course. A uniform layer of corned up snow 1-2 inches deep. Excellent skate skiing - as good as groomed courdoroy. It was snowing pretty hard at 3:30 when I left too. so should stay the same or get better.

12/2 Today it was very windy at the golf course but the skiing was pretty good - and along the far side it was partially sheltered from the wind by Pyramid and quite pleasant. The new snow has drifted and the drifts need to be avoided. I'd be skate skiing at high speed and then hit a drift and come to a dead stop. For this reason it might be better to take classic ski gear. Definitely worth the trip. Patrick

Thanks for Christening the Snow Report for 2016. It looks like the wind is supposed to die down on Sunday, and then much of next week looks cool and snowy.

12/3 Today the skate skiing was actually better than before. All the drifting snow blew away and the entire area is now down to a uniform layer of 1-2 inches of crusty snow. This was the wet snow from wednesday's storm. It was wet so once frozen it did not blow away. It is a soft crust and not icy at all - sort of a subliminated crust. Very fast and also excellent edging (you sink in a half inch or so). I am also thinking that a lot of the powder might be blowing into the trees in the upper Buskin area. It might be worth checking out. Patrick.
