Today was really lovely. Warmer than yesterday with light winds from the east off the gulf, and glorious sunshine. If my hike into the Three Sisters felt like fall asserting itself, then on Heitman today summer made a final stand. It's actually been MANY years since I went up Heitman along this main trail past the lake. I usually go up from Middle Bay. It was really pleasant and I had forgotten what a gradual, undulating trail it was. Definitely easier than a lot of the vertical grunts we have around here. The trail is SO DRY. Those of you who know this one probably dread the puddles, mud, and the creek down below the lake. Well, the trail is in super shape right now. The fall colors (as much as Kodiak gets them) are pretty good to boot. Don't go up there looking for cranberries though, I saw none. I mean, totally blank. I saw two groups of deer hunters and both looked like they were going home empty handed. It was great to be out there though. Hiking from Heitman to Raymond. The distant peak with some snow is Center Mountain, and Crown Mountain is barely visible just poking up to the right of Center Mtn. I saw people, but no critters (though I didn't look very hard): Gotta love T-shirt weather this close to the autumnal equinox:
