I’ll try to keep this thread updated as trails get cleared.
Saturday June 20:
The Virginia Creek (north side) trail up the North Sister is brushed. Enjoy.
Sunday June 21:
The Pillar Reservoir Bench (the bench southeast of the 3 Sisters) is trimmed
The trail up the South Sister from the Pillar Bench is also cut.
Tuesday June 30:
The route up onto the Devils Prongs accessed from the end of the Pillar Reservoir Bench Trail (cross the creek at the end of the bench) is cut. Get some!
Saturday July 11:
ITN hosted a volunteer work party and we brushed the Heitman trail from the Chiniak Highway to Heitman Lake. Thanks to everyone who helped!
Sunday July 12
The Red Cloud trail up Sharatin is trimmed to alpine. H and E did some lovely work rerouting the trail around some boggy sections. Please look for the flagging on the re-routes and honor them. Overall the trail is in great shape.
Saturday July 18
Today the 4th of July Trail got trimmed. Should have done it earlier in the summer- that was a bit of work, lol. Now GO HIKE IT!
ITN finished cutting the “Cocaine Hill” (aka Monashka Overlook) east side of the North Sister if you need a steep, hot, buggy, annoying alternative to the vastly superior Virginia Creek trail. BTW- no shade on ITN- love those folks. I just don’t know why anyone climbs the North Sister that way...
Saturday July 25
Today another ITN volunteer work party cleared the steep ‘shortcut’ trail up Monashka Mountain. It’s a bit boggy and muddy going up that way, but it’s quick and more direct than via the beaver pond trail.
