We met at the pass at 9am for the avalanche workshop, which was very good. Afterwards a lot of folks headed up Pmid. The weather was fabulous with light and cool westerly winds and little fluffy clouds wafting by. There are two nice tracks to either skin or snowshoe up (use the one appropriate for you . We took a run down the north bowl and that was pretty good. There are 4-6" of wind packed pow over a firmer layer underneath. If you skied mellow you stayed up in the pow, but if you really drove your turns you cut down the firm stuff underneath and that was still good but a little less awesome. It was easy to ski out the bottom of the bowl and the coverage is excellent all the way down to the valley floor on the back side, and the alders aren't even an issue. The snow is not perfect down that low, however, but you can get a nice looong run out of it. On balance: super. We hiked back up and did a south bowl run. Tremendous. Also wind packed pow but with no obvious layers, and the sun was blazing. The snow was bordering on spring snow as the sun cooked it. It was good enough we hiked back up and did a second lap. The whole bowl was good from the nose all the way to the gut. We rode down to the top of the 3 Tree run and it was great the whole way. Even the 3 Tree was in good shape until the last 300' which got skied out and crusty. It was an excellent day up there and the snow is good in the bowls (Jibber, North, South). The ridges are a bit scoured, but finding pockets of nice snow is not hard at all. Go get some.

A view if Bear Mtn from the bottom of the N Bowl: Starting the climb up from the veeeery bottom of the north side. The peak is in the distance. At the bottom of the bowl now: The light was a little flat in the bowl as it was in shadow when we were up there in the morning. S bowl fauna: Dropping in for lap 2: The top of the 3 Tree run: all smiles...

Yes, it was fun snowboarding! Nice to see people enjoying the mountain.
Also I want to say thanks to KISAR and Orions for organizing the free avalanche training. What a great day for it. I feel much better now about my skills.

Just wanted to add on to this thread to say thanks to KISAR and Orions for the great avy refresher- much appreciated! Beautiful day for skiing out there, saw Adelia and Phillip a few times, mostly skied with Lisa M., which was great! I have to say that the North Bowl run was by far my favorite of the day for tele skis, highly recommended almost down to the bottom. South Bowl was a tad sun-affected, but the mid section was blissful and the sunshine felt goooood. Three Tree run was a bit nasty for me, especially last stretch which was pretty cut up and crusty. But, overall, AWESOME day for skiing on Pyramid

Today (Sunday, Patrick's birthday [observed]), we skied up Pmid, down the north bowl (still excellent) to the very bottom, then up Bear Mountain, did 2 laps on Bear, and then climbed back up the north bowl and came down the Jibber bowl and a variation on Steve's Gully. The slopes that had been hit by sun yesterday were not so good anymore as they had crusted over a bit, but all the stuff in shadow and with north aspects were excellent. Still plenty of nice pow to be found. Climbing Bear Mtn after descending the back of Pmid: In this shot you can see the north bowl right in the picture center, angling down to the right. We descended all the way to the lower right hand corner of the picture and then crossed the ravine to access Bear Mtn. There was some cool light up there today:

Thanks for the photo post philip! Now i don't need to put all those '[' , '/'and 'img's' all over the place when posting my own. Also, even I'll admit the downhill was pretty good today! And it is good to be old!

A little vid for your viewing pleasure. I apologize to my skier friends that they aren't more prominently depicted, but I decided to go for a snowboarding theme. Link --->
