I recently had the opportunity to poke around Crown Mountain and associated terrain. There is lots of snow on the interior of the island, and most of it is smooth and beautiful stuff. I thought I'd throw up a few shots of the east and west sides of Crown, as well as the east side of the ridge just this (town) side of Crown. Climbing up to the top of Widgeon Bowl from the Terror Lake side: The west side of Crown as seen from the bottom of Widgeon Bowl. I skied around the south end of the mountain, taking the pass that is the only obviously sunny part of the mountain seen on the upper right of the image. The more adventurous traveler would opt for the high pass on the upper left in the image. The next two images after this one are zoomed in to show the snow coverage approaching this high pass: This is the view of the other (east) side of Crown, looking in a somewhat southerly direction. It seems to be getting a lot more sun and is sloughing all over the place. The mellower slopes are in good shape though, most notably the obvious ramp on the right: This is the east side of the next ridge on the town side of Crown. I went over the pass to the right of image center, and rode down the ramps to the right out of the frame. Someone wanting a longer run could go over the high ridge to the left of image center and take a lovely long run diagonally down and to the right through the center of the frame: Etc. Lots of country out there.
