1/17 Monday. While everyone else is going high for the powder, I remain earthbound, skiing the Upper Buskin. Today it was 17 at the pump house; I skied across the lake and up the river about 2.5 miles total one way. Off track is icy hard crust; on track is good, fast skiing. I talked with the ice fishermen who showed me the ice is a good 18 inches thick in the area off the UB mouth where they are fishing. The sun is still not hitting the river.

1/18 I went there too with Nora - but after you did around 2 PM. The skate skiing was still excellent and I noticed that the parallel XC track had been 'broken in' and softened up. I was just on the lake at Abercrombie and it looked like perfect skiing if you could catch it RIGHT now. An evening ski.
I also went downhill today and just an inch of new at parking lot around 2:30. Not very windy down low but above the jibber very windy. Not enough snow and too dry to 'zambone' the old ski fossils in the Jibber and re set things. But Sharon's Traverse very good. And I think it will only be better tomorrow. Patrick

January 20 Thursday: Although it was raining at our house, it was snowing hard at the Upper Buskin - 28 degrees. I skied the upper trail down to the river and upriver on an excellent hard track covered with new snow. I looked forward to an excellent ski downriver to the mouth, but while I was upriver, a runner came in the lower trail and tore up about a mile running out and back in the ski track, post holing the heck out of it. Once downriver past that the skiing was again excellent. It was still snowing and below freezing at the parking lot but by the time I got to Bridge 7, the temperature had risen to 35.

1/29/22. I took the dogs XC skiing on Lake Gertrude this morning. It was quite pleasant. I went skate skiing but the classic would probably be better - the powder is not well-adhered to the ice. Good place to ski and be out of the wind. Hardest part was getting on the ice because there is a 'moat' of thin ice all around the lake just at the shore. But the ice is solid - like over a foot thick. Patrick

2/10 Yesterday to avoid the wind I went skate skiing on the Lake at Abercrombie. It was quite good. Classic skiing would probably have been better. Sunshine and very little wind. I'll probably go there again today. Patrick
