We rode out to Saltery Cove today from the American River parking area near the Chiniak Highway. Some motorized traffic on the trail, but not much. Maybe 3 groups of ATVs. Most of the time it was quiet. The river crossings were manageable, but the puddles were full and there were a lot of them. It's kinda like Burma Rd. The cottonwoods are yellow and the black birch out by Ugak were really pretty. The fireweed is around the bend and at the fluff stage. Some fields were still nice and red, but the height of the colors has passed. Not a bad trip, but be ready to get really wet repeatedly from the knee down. The bearings on your bike will hate you too.
